MALABATA - Al Hoceima

Malabata isn't your average Mediterranean wreck dive. This isn't some deep, mysterious hulk. No, this 40-metre trawler, deliberately sunk near Al Hoceima's shipyard, is something else entirely. We love it because it’s shallow, accessible, and perfect for getting up close and personal. The wreck itself rests in just 10 metres of water, meaning excellent bottom time to explore every nook and cranny. We’d suggest you take your time, drift over the deck, and peek into the open holds. Light streams down, illuminating the schools of small bream and silversides that dart through the structure. Look for nudibranchs clinging to the metal, their vibrant colours a real contrast against the rust. On a calm day, the visibility can be surprisingly good, making the whole wreck feel almost within reach. It’s a fantastic spot for photographers looking for an easy subject or newer wreck divers wanting to build confidence without the pressure of depth or strong currents. Just remember, it's right by the port, so pay attention to the briefing about any local boat traffic.
