MAZAGAN - Al Hoceima

Mazagan isn't a deep dive, peaking at just 3 metres, but that shallow depth is precisely its charm. It’s a fascinating historical wreck, a wooden fishing trawler, easily accessible and surprisingly intact given its age and location. We love how the Mediterranean sun filters through the surface, illuminating the skeleton of the boat and the colourful growth that's taken hold. You'll spend your time exploring the hull, weaving through the sturdy wooden ribs and imagining the lives of the fishermen who once worked it. It’s a photographer's dream on a sunny day, with the light playing off the algae and creating shifting patterns. Look closely and you’ll find plenty of small nudibranchs, often some vibrant ones, and the occasional curious octopus peeking out from a shadowy corner. We'd suggest aiming for a calm morning, before the afternoon breeze picks up, to get the best visibility and a chance to really soak in the atmosphere of this quiet wreck. Mazagan is a perfect site for snorkelers, freedivers, and even new divers wanting to get comfortable around a wreck without the pressures of depth or strong currents.
