MONTE LA NINA - Al Hoceima

Monte La Nina, a fishing vessel, sits upright at a shallow 8 metres, making it a dream for extended bottom times and even a snorkel from the surface on a calm day. We love how accessible this wreck is, tucked away from stronger currents, making it a truly relaxed dive. It’s got an almost ghostly quality, the hull and superstructure now completely covered in sponges and sea squirts, a vibrant, soft blanket over its metal bones. You can swim through the wheelhouse, feeling the cool water slide around you, imagining the daily routines of the fishermen who once worked this boat. Schools of juvenile damselfish flit in and out of the broken windows, and we’ve often spotted octopus tucked into crevices, their eyes watching you curiously. It’s a site that feels alive despite its tragic past, a beautiful example of nature reclaiming something man-made. Our favourite time to dive here is late morning, after the sun has climbed high enough to really illuminate the deck.
