MYRON C TAYLOR - Al Hoceima

The Myron C Taylor isn’t one of those big, deep wrecks that asks for technical gear. Nope. This is a shallow, almost intimate dive, sitting in a mere five metres of water just off the coast of Al Hoceima. It’s listed as "dangerous," which we think refers more to the original wrecking than the current dive. What you get now is a beautifully broken-up cargo ship, spread across the seabed, making for a fantastic playground. We love how the light plays on the scattered debris, filtering through the surface and illuminating the twisted metal. It’s like an archaeological dig, but you get to swim through it. You’ll find schools of damselfish flitting through the frames, and moray eels peeking from beneath plates of rusted steel. Our favourite spot is a section of the hull that’s become a kind of apartment block for small groupers. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration, perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants to poke around a bit. While the maximum depth is five metres, we’d suggest spending your time at around three metres, hovering over the main sections and watching the resident fish go about their day. It’s a gentle dive, surprisingly rich, and a great way to spend an hour.
