NEW FLAME (PART OF)(POSSIBLY) - Al Hoceima

The New Flame wreck, or what’s left of her anyway, off Al Hoceima, feels like a proper deep dive adventure. We hit the deck at 32 metres, and even at that depth, the sheer scale of this bulk carrier is impressive. She broke up during a storm back in 2007, and you can really see the forces at play – twisted metal, massive plates ripped apart, it’s a powerful sight. We love exploring the holds, particularly the ones towards the stern, where shafts of light pierce through, illuminating schools of sardines. Look closely at the superstructure; moray eels peek out from every conceivable crevice, and we’ve spotted some decent-sized dentex patrolling the edges. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we always aim for a calm morning. It’s a site for experienced divers comfortable with deep profiles and overhead environments, offering a real sense of a major maritime disaster transformed into a thriving artificial reef.
