PUNTAMAR I - Al Hoceima

Puntamar I, just off Al Hoceima, is a proper little Mediterranean wreck, and one we always enjoy for a chill dive. This 23.5-meter fishing vessel sits upright at 15 meters, making it an ideal depth for less experienced wreck divers or for those who just want to spend some good bottom time exploring. We love how light filters through the superstructure, creating these shafts of blue, especially on a sunny morning. You can fin right along the deck, peeking into the wheelhouse and the holds. We’ve often spotted octopus tucked into the nooks, their eyes tracking you, and there are always schools of damselfish flitting around the mast. It’s got that slightly ghostly feel that only a sunken boat can give, but it’s also vibrant with new life. We’d suggest going early if you can; the light is better and you’re more likely to have the site to yourselves. It’s not a deep, challenging technical dive, but it’s full of character and a great spot for underwater photography.
