VIRGEN DE LA BONANOVA - Al Hoceima

The Virgen de la Bonanova sits just four metres down, a shallow wreck that’s surprisingly evocative for its depth. We love this site for its accessibility and the way the light filters through the clear Mediterranean water, illuminating the ship’s skeletal remains. It’s a fishing trawler, sunk deliberately, and you can still make out the wheelhouse structure and the stern, now colonised by bright green algae and sponges. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for small moray eels peering out, and we often spot damselfish darting in and out of the metalwork. This is a perfect spot for snorkelers or newer divers getting comfortable around wrecks. Visibility here is usually excellent, especially in the mornings before any boat traffic stirs things up. We’d suggest going early to have the site to yourself; it's a great warm-up dive or a leisurely second dip. There’s not much current, so you can take your time exploring the details, imagining the ship in its working days.
