KANSAS - Stavanger & Rogaland

The KANSAS, a fishing vessel that met its end in the depths off Stavanger, is a real favourite for us. At 29 metres, it’s a comfortable dive for those with deep wreck experience, and it offers a surprising amount to see. We always make a point of checking out the wheelhouse, which is still remarkably intact, often swarming with small schooling fish. What we love most about the KANSAS is how accessible it feels. You can swim through parts of the superstructure, feeling the cool water brush past as you navigate the corridors where the crew once worked. Look closely at the deck plating, especially around the winches; you’ll often find nudibranchs clinging on, camouflaged against the rust. The stern is particularly good for spotting larger cod lurking in the shadows, and the prop is still there, partially buried in the silt, a testament to its final moments. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, perfect for photographers wanting to capture that moody North Sea wreck atmosphere. Just be mindful of the occasional current, particularly on a strong tide.
