MACUREK - Stavanger & Rogaland

Macurek isn't a dive you just drop onto. This old trawler, lying at 30 metres, is a serious piece of history and definitely for those comfortable with deeper wreck penetration. We love the feeling of descent here, dropping into that murky green water, knowing the bones of a ship are waiting. It’s a proper dive, cold and dark, but the rewards are there. As you get closer, the wreck takes shape, surprisingly intact, a dark silhouette on the seabed. We often spend our bottom time just exploring the wheelhouse and the engine room, carefully finning through the tighter spots. Inside, it's like a time capsule. Look for the massive cod and ling that have made this wreck their home, often lurking in the shadowed doorways. Visibility can be hit or miss; a good day gives you maybe 10 metres, but even on a poorer day, the sheer scale of the trawler feels impressive. This is our pick for a real wreck experience in Rogaland, not for the faint of heart, but incredibly rewarding for those who make the effort.
