MARTIN RAGNAR (POSSIBLY) - Stavanger & Rogaland

The Martin Ragnar, off Stavanger, is a proper northern wreck dive, moody and rewarding if you hit it right. She went down in September 1939, a U-boat victim en route to Ellesmere Port, and now she sits upright at 33 metres, her masts toppled but the hull surprisingly intact for a vessel of her age and fate. We love the way she’s been colonised, not just by anemones and sponges, but by the sheer silence of the deep. Drop down her bow and you’ll find cod sheltering in the shadow of the bridge. The cargo holds are open, inviting a careful penetration if you’re experienced and properly kitted out for overhead environments. Our favourite part is the stern, where the prop shaft leads into the gloom, a stark reminder of her working life. This dive isn’t about colourful corals; it's about history and the eerie beauty of a shipwreck reclaimed by the Norwegian Sea. It’s a dive for those who appreciate a bit of a challenge and a lot of atmosphere.
