REKO TOR - Stavanger & Rogaland

The Reko Tor isn’t just a sunken boat; she’s a time capsule, a beautiful mess resting upright on the seabed at 48 metres. We love this dive for its quiet drama. Built in 1899, she’s a proper old motor vessel, and you can still make out the lines of her deck, the ghostly outline of the bridge, even some of the holds. Visibility here can be generous, giving you sweeping views of the whole wreck as you descend, the dark shape slowly resolving into detail. It’s a deep dive, definitely one for experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts. We’d suggest nitrox and a proper plan for bottom time. As you get closer, the wreck comes alive with the residents: cod often patrol the broken stern, wolfish sometimes eye you from a dark corner, and the metalwork is draped in colourful anemones and sponges, a stark contrast to the often grey North Sea. Our favourite detail is the way the light plays on the corroded superstructure, throwing long shadows and making you feel like you’ve stumbled into a forgotten world. This isn't a penetration dive, but the sense of history, of a vessel frozen in time, is palpable.
