SS Rio de Janeiro - Stavanger & Rogaland
Diving the SS Rio de Janeiro, you're not just seeing a wreck, you're touching a piece of history. This cargo steamship, sunk early in World War II, sits upright, surprisingly intact given its age. We’ve found the stern particularly compelling, where the prop is often still visible, draped in anemones. It's a dive that appeals to those who appreciate the story behind the metal, with cod and pollock frequently patrolling the holds, making for some excellent photographic opportunities in the gloomier sections. Just be mindful of the often-chilly Norwegian waters; a drysuit is definitely our recommendation.
