VESTKYSTEN - Stavanger & Rogaland

Vestkysten, in Norwegian, translates to "The West Coast," and it’s a fitting name for this fishing vessel, resting upright at 26 meters in the chill waters off Stavanger. What we love about her is the eerie stillness; she’s intact, a ghost ship, with her mast reaching up into the gloom, often disappearing into murkier layers. You can fin right up to the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments of the crew, though we’d suggest spending more time exploring the holds, which are now home to some impressive resident cod and often a cheeky wolf fish or two. The visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, especially after heavy rains, so we always check local reports before heading out. Our favourite part? The stern, where the propellor blades are still perfectly formed, hinting at the power she once commanded. This isn't a site for absolute beginners, but if you’ve got some cold water experience and a fondness for Norwegian maritime history, Vestkysten is a compelling dive.
