Wreck of German cruiser Karlsruhe - Stavanger & Rogaland

Diving the Karlsruhe isn't just a dive, it's a history lesson encased in steel. We love a good wreck, and this one, sitting upright at 490m, is one of our favourites for its sheer scale and historical weight. You drop down, and as the lights pierce the deep, the sheer size of this Königsberg-class cruiser slowly materialises. It's a proper expedition dive, requiring specialist training and gas, but the rewards are immense. We've spent hours tracing the decks, imagining the chaos of April 9, 1940. The wreck is surprisingly intact, though time and the deep have taken their toll. What you really notice are the guns, still pointing, frozen in time. Around them, we've spotted various anemones clinging to the metal, and the occasional ling or cod darting from the shadows. It’s a site for experienced technical divers, those who appreciate the silence and history of a deep-water leviathan. Visibility here can be excellent, often reaching 20m, which helps when you’re trying to comprehend the scale of it all. It’s a cold dive, even in summer, so drysuits and proper thermal protection are non-negotiable.
