NUMANTIA - Algarve & Berlengas

Numantia, a casualty of a storm in 1897, sits just shy of the surface, making it one of our favourite shallow wrecks in the Algarve. At only two metres deep, you’re practically snorkelling the bow, which means plenty of bottom time and great natural light for photography. We love how the sun streams through the water, illuminating the hull's ghostly ribs and the shy little octopus tucked into crevices. It’s an easy dive, perfect for newer divers getting their first taste of a proper shipwreck, or anyone who enjoys a relaxed exploration. We always find schools of juvenile sea bream darting through the rusted metal, and the anemones here are particularly colourful, swaying gently with the surge. Our top tip: go at high tide on a calm day for the best visibility. You’ll feel the history of the old cargo ship, a quiet, almost melancholic presence, while damselfish flit amongst its remains.
