SHETLAND - Algarve & Berlengas
The Shetland, a steamship that went down off Cape St. Vincent in 1943, sits at a substantial 55 meters. This is a deep dive, making it one for experienced technical divers comfortable with those depths and the decompression protocols involved. We found the wreck still largely intact, a somber but fascinating structure with its cargo holds offering some exploration for properly trained divers. Over the decades, the hull has become home to conger eels, resident grouper, and we spotted several large spider crabs picking their way across the deck. It’s a site that tells a story, though conditions can be variable with currents occasionally strong, so pick your day carefully.
