VALE FORMOSA - Algarve & Berlengas

Vale Formosa is a sleeper hit, a shallow wreck dive that often gets overlooked but we absolutely love. It’s sitting upright in just 6 metres of water, perfect for an extended bottom time and photographers who want to play with natural light. The wreck itself, a small fishing vessel, isn’t huge, but it’s completely encrusted. The sheer density of colour here is what gets us – sponges and anemones paint the hull in oranges, purples, and blues, making it feel like a living art piece. We always spot octopus tucked into crevices and schools of juvenile fish darting through the superstructure. It’s an easy, relaxed dive, ideal for beginners, but even experienced wreck heads will appreciate the vibrant marine growth. Our top tip: go on a sunny afternoon; the light penetration really makes the colours pop.
