With 219+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and hammerhead sharks - Dollabarat offers some of Azores's richest reef diving. Water ranges 16-24°C, warmest August, September, October.
The Dollabarat reef, just off the Azores, is a solid dive, offering a good representation of what the islands deliver. It's a volcanic seamount, so expect dramatic basalt formations draped in jewel anemones and some decent coral growth. We've often spotted dusky groupers lurking in the cracks, and parrotfish are always busy on the shallower sections. The visibility can be excellent here, making it a great spot for wide-angle photography, especially if you're lucky enough to have loggerhead turtles cruise by. This site suits divers comfortable with open water and a bit of current, especially if you want to explore the deeper ledges where bigeye tuna occasionally patrol.
