HMS STRONSAY - Tabarka

The HMS Stronsay, sitting at 35 metres, is our favourite wreck dive off Tabarka, hands down. We love the dramatic story behind her sinking in 1943, whether by mine or Italian submarine, it adds a real weight to the dive. Dropping down, you’ll find her mostly intact, lying on her port side, a classic trawler shape that’s become home to so much life. What really grabs us is the way light plays through the structure, especially if you catch it on a sunny day. We've spent ages just hovering over the stern, watching schools of damselfish flit in and out of the broken plating. Look closely and you’ll often spot a moray eel peeking from a dark crevice or a conger eel stretched out under the bow. Entry to the hold is possible for those with the right training, and it’s a tight, rewarding squeeze, revealing the bones of the ship. We'd suggest aiming for a morning dive before any afternoon chop picks up, when the visibility is usually at its best. It's a proper wreck dive, best suited for experienced divers comfortable with the depth and potential for variable currents.
