PESCE MARTELLO (POSSIBLY) - Tabarka

Pesce Martello, or what we strongly suspect is Pesce Martello, is one of those Mediterranean wrecks that truly tells a story. We dropped down expecting just another fishing boat, but the sheer size and the way it’s settled, almost listing dramatically on the seabed at 25m, made us pause. You can almost feel the chaos from that December night in ’91 when she started taking on water. The wreck itself is mostly intact, a ghostly outline against the blue, and that’s what we love about it. Penetration is possible for experienced wreck divers, though we’d advise caution around some of the more deteriorated sections. The wheelhouse is still there, eerily open, and the cargo hold offers a fascinating, almost cathedral-like space now home to schools of small amberjacks and curious groupers peeking out from shadows. The hull is a tapestry of jewel anemones and sponges, a real explosion of colour that brings the history to life. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet drama of a historical wreck, the kind that lets your imagination run a little wild.
