MISTY DAWN - Northumberland & Northeast

The Misty Dawn, for us, is a proper local favourite, a testament to how quickly the sea reclaims things. Sunk in 2008, it's already a vibrant habitat despite its shallow 10-meter depth. We love this site for its accessibility and the sheer amount of life that now calls this small fishing vessel home. Dropping down, you’ll find the 8.5-meter steel hull lying on its side. It’s compact, but there’s enough here to keep you exploring for a good 20 minutes, especially if you take your time to peer into every nook. The stern, where she went down first, is often the most encrusted. Expect to see plenty of wrasse darting in and out, their colours muted by the North Sea light, alongside inquisitive blennies peeking from crevices. Our favourite part has to be the deck area, now a mini-forest of anemones and dead man’s fingers swaying with the gentle surge. It’s a great spot for newer wreck divers looking for something approachable. Just be mindful of snagged fishing lines, a common sight on many working wrecks.
