OCEAN HUNTER - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Ocean Hunter*, an old wooden fishing trawler, went down in 2004, and what a dive it’s become. We love how quickly this wreck has transformed into a proper artificial reef, considering it hasn't been down for long in the grand scheme of things. Dropping onto her at 35 metres, the sheer size of her wooden hull becomes clear, even though she's not a huge vessel at 15 metres long. You can still see where the fire took hold, charring parts of the deck and giving the wreck a raw, dramatic feel. The real draw here is the resident population of lobsters and crabs – some of the biggest we've seen in the area – tucked into every nook and cranny. Look closely, and you’ll spot colourful jewel anemones starting to colonise the exposed timbers. Our favourite part is the wheelhouse, which is still largely intact and provides some fantastic photo opportunities, especially if you catch it with good visibility. It’s a proper expedition dive, well-suited to experienced wreck divers comfortable with depth and the sometimes-finicky North Sea conditions. Dive it on slack water for the best chance to really soak it all in.
