U 246 - Northumberland & Northeast

Dropping onto the U 246 at 45 metres off the Northumberland coast, you immediately get a sense of its scale. The U-boat lies upright, largely intact despite the mine strike that sent her down in 1945. We often spend our bottom time exploring the conning tower, which still stands proud, and peering into the torpedo tubes forward. Look out for the resident wolf fish that have made the wreck their home, alongside conger eels tucked into the deeper recesses. It’s a dive best suited for experienced cold-water wreck divers comfortable with depth and sometimes challenging visibility.
