WESTWARD HO - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Westward Ho* is one of our favourites in the Northeast, a genuine diver’s wreck if you can handle the depth. She lies upright, a real ship shape, and you can still see the eight-cylinder MAN engine, a hulking piece of machinery now completely reclaimed by the sea. Dropping down, you’ll feel the chill of the North Sea, but the visibility here can surprise you, often a good 10-15 metres on a calm day. We love exploring the holds, usually packed with cod and ling, big fish that eye you up as you pass. Look for the wolf fish too, tucked into crevices, their grumpy faces always a treat. The structure itself is still incredibly intact, offering plenty of overhead environments for those with the right training and experience. It’s a serious dive, one we’d only recommend for technical divers, but for those capable, it’s a proper piece of history brought to life by the sheer abundance of marine life. Just be sure to pick a slack tide; the currents can rip through here otherwise.
