MERGANZA - Scottish West Coast

We love the Merganza. It’s not about depth here, it’s about character and accessibility. This 9.8-meter fishing vessel, sitting upright in a shallow 8 meters, is pure West Coast charm. Dropping onto the deck, you’ll find it mostly intact, a ghostly outline of its working life. Sunlight filters down, illuminating the wheelhouse and the open cargo hold, which is now home to a congregation of colourful anemones and squat lobsters tucked into every crevice. We’ve even spotted a curious conger eel peeking from beneath the bow. It’s an ideal second dive or a fantastic training site for those new to wreck diving, offering just enough to explore without being overwhelming. The stern holds our favourite photographic opportunities, especially when the kelp sways gently in the surge, framing the ship's lines. Look for the small, iridescent nudibranchs clinging to the rusty metal – a true delight.
