Second Penninsula
Protected Area
Grassy Island Nature Reserve
Why dive here
With 77+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales, ocean sunfish (mola mola) and jellyfish lake - Second Penninsula offers some of Nova Scotia's richest diving. Water ranges 1-17°C, warmest August, September, October.
Second Peninsula offers a classic Nova Scotia shore dive, accessible and relatively sheltered. Expect cool water, but if you're comfortable in a thick wetsuit or drysuit, you'll find plenty to explore amongst the kelp and rocks. It’s a good spot for newer cold-water divers to practice skills or for anyone looking for a relaxed local dive with a chance to spot sculpins, crabs, and maybe a lobster or two. We've always found it a reliable spot for an easy afternoon out.
Safety Notes
Cold water this month (avg 15°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
