Buller Reef - Québec

Esk Island Reef is one of those places that reminds you why you lug all that gear across the world. It’s not just a beautiful spot, it feels genuinely alive. We've had some cracking dives here, particularly along the outer wall where the current sometimes picks up, bringing in the bigger pelagics. We've spent entire safety stops watching schools of Blunt-head Parrotfish graze, their colours shifting with the light, or spotting Golden Butterflyfish darting between the Bracket Coral. The reef itself is a robust mix, with impressive stands of Staghorn and Lettuce coral creating intricate hideouts. Our favourite time to dive Esk is first thing in the morning; the light filtering through the water column then is just something else, and often the Tern species, like the Black-naped, are just starting their day around the island. It’s a site for divers who appreciate a healthy, dynamic reef, perfect for those with a few dives under their belt, happy to navigate a gentle drift.
