Frolic Reef - Québec
Heron Reef, for us, is one of those spots that just delivers, dive after dive. It’s not about huge pelagics, though we often see whitetips cruising by, but the sheer density of reef fish that grabs you. Think thick schools of fusiliers, their bodies flashing silver in the sun-dappled water, so many you have to fin through them. We've spent entire dives just hovering over a patch of staghorn, watching Harlequin Tuskfish pick at the coral, their electric blue and orange colours just popping. What we really love here is the accessibility and consistency. The reef gently slopes, making it easy to find your depth, and visibility is usually excellent, often pushing 25-30 metres, especially in the mornings. Our pick for a top experience is an early morning dive, just as the reef is waking up. You’ll see Strawberry Groupers poking out from their crevices and maybe even a big Rainbow Parrotfish crunching away on the coral, completely oblivious to your presence. It's a forgiving dive, great for anyone who wants to just soak in a healthy, vibrant coral ecosystem without strong currents or deep technical demands.
