Wreck Wee Hawk - Québec

Wee Hawk, now this is a proper piece of history underwater, not just a pile of planks. Dropping onto her, you really get a sense of the vessel she once was, a small tugboat lost in a storm back in '32. Our favourite part has to be nosing around the engine room, even after all these years you can still make out gauges and parts of the machinery, all covered in a fine layer of silt. It feels like stepping back in time, a really tangible connection to the past. Visibility can be a bit variable here – sometimes it’s 5 metres, other days you’re looking at 15. We'd suggest going on a calm morning; the lack of current really helps keep the silty bottom from stirring up. Take your time. We always find something new, a detail we missed before. You’ll spot plenty of Yellow Perch darting in and out of the superstructure, and look closely for Mottled Sculpin tucked into cracks. For something a bit different, the Wee Hawk is a fantastic dive, especially if you love a wreck with a story.
