Buceando Mahahual - Cozumel

Buceando Mahahual feels like Cozumel’s quieter cousin, a site where we really take our time. It’s not the roaring current drift of some other spots, which we actually prefer sometimes. Here, you can slow down and properly appreciate the reef structure, the way the light catches the crevices. We’ve had some fantastic encounters with Angelfish, those big Queen Angelfish often just hanging out, unbothered. Keep an eye out for Hinds, too, they’re usually lurking under ledges, giving you the side-eye. The coral here, particularly the Great Star Coral, forms impressive structures, creating plenty of nooks and crannies for smaller species. We often find ourselves just hovering, watching the Porkfish move in their busy schools. Visibility tends to be excellent, letting you spot the more subtle colours of the Butterflyfish and the Hogfish as they cruise by. We’d suggest this site for anyone who enjoys a relaxed dive, where the real reward is in observing the smaller details rather than a speedy drift past big pelagics. It’s perfect for photographers or those who simply like to truly *see* what’s around them.
