La Francesa - Cozumel

La Francesa is one of those Cozumel sites that reminds us why we keep coming back. It’s not the dramatic wall dive of Palancar, but it has a charm all its own, a real drift diver's delight. We love the way the current often sweeps you gently along a sloping reef, letting you really soak in the details. You’ll spot Yellowhead Jawfish popping in and out of their burrows, always a fun game of peek-a-boo. Keep an eye out for Marbled Morays tucked into crevices and those brightly patterned Spotted Trunkfish gliding past. The elkhorn coral formations here are particularly handsome, sprawling out like underwater trees. Our favourite time to dive La Francesa is mid-morning, when the sunlight filters through the water just right, illuminating the reef in a soft glow. It’s a great spot for both newer drift divers looking for a mellow ride and experienced eyes seeking out the smaller stuff – think Dusky Pipefish or tiny Pale Cardinalfish hiding amongst the coral branches. If you can handle a steady current and enjoy a relaxed float with plenty to observe, La Francesa delivers a genuinely lovely Cozumel experience.
