Paraiso Reef - Cozumel

Paraiso Reef, right there off Cozumel’s main drag, often gets overlooked for its flashier neighbours. But we love it for a reason: it’s consistently good, especially for a relaxed drift. The visibility here is usually excellent, letting you spot those small details we sometimes miss when zooming past a deeper wall. Our pick for Paraiso is always an afternoon dive. The light filtering through the water just hits the finger corals differently, giving them a real glow. We often find ourselves spotting juvenile parrotfish darting through the manatee grass beds, and the occasional Caribbean spiny lobster peeking out from under a ledge. Keep an eye out for the Collared Eel – they’re shy, but sometimes you’ll catch one undulating from its sandy burrow. It’s a gentle drift, perfect for photographers wanting to practice their macro skills without fighting a raging current, or for anyone who just wants to soak in the reef without feeling rushed. You’ll probably see more Whitestar Cardinalfish here than anywhere else on the island, a shimmering cloud of them.
