With 58+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, humpback whales, orcas and seals & sea lions - Gatenby Rock offers some of Alaska's richest diving. Water ranges 5-15°C, warmest July, August, September.
Gatenby Rock is exactly what it sounds like: a big, imposing chunk of rock rising from the Alaskan depths. We don't have deep intel on this site, but what we do know suggests a colder water dive with some interesting macro potential. Expect the usual suspects for a rocky Pacific Northwest environment: sea stars clinging to the walls, maybe some nudibranchs if you’ve got a keen eye. The waters here are probably on the chillier side, so a drysuit is a smart move. If you're looking for something off the beaten path and enjoy exploring a less-documented site, this could be a fun one to tick off.
