Enterprise Cannery - California

The Enterprise Cannery site is pure California weirdness, and we absolutely love it. Dropping down, you’re not looking at a ship, but the skeleton of an industrial past – huge concrete pilings, twisted rebar, and scattered machinery spread between 10 and 25 meters. It’s an artificial reef in the truest sense, and it feels like diving through a forgotten underwater factory. Our favourite part is navigating the ghostly framework; schools of Atlantic chub mackerel swirl through the submerged support beams, their silver scales glinting in the filtered light. Look closely at the crevices, and you’ll spot daisy midshipmen hunkered down, or maybe a curious slender sole peeking out. This isn't a colourful reef dive; it’s a dive for those who appreciate history, the resilience of marine life adapting to new habitats, and the strange beauty of human structures reclaimed by the ocean. It’s best dived on a calm day; California currents can get tricky, and you want to be able to properly poke around in the shadows of the old cannery.
