HMCS Yukon (Wreck) - California

The HMCS Yukon, deliberately sunk in 2000, sits upright at 28 meters just off San Diego. We love this wreck, it’s a proper ship with plenty to see, not just scattered debris. Our favourite part has to be the penetration opportunities; there are several entry points to explore the interior, especially the engine room and the bridge. Just be mindful of the silt inside. Descending onto the main deck, you’re often greeted by schools of senoritas darting through the superstructure. Garibaldi, bright orange against the steel, guard their territories, while nudibranchs, often the size of your thumb, cling to the railings. The bow gun is a popular photo op, covered in strawberry anemones. We’d suggest diving this one on a calm day; while currents aren't usually brutal, they can make finning around a big wreck a bit tiring. It’s a solid intermediate dive, perfect if you’re comfortable with depth and overhead environments.
