Why dive here
Refugio is a dive in California, United States. Water ranges 14-21°C, warmest July, August, September.
Refugio is a solid shore dive, popular with local spearfishermen. We usually find kelp forests extending into the deeper rocky reefs, a good spot to look for cabezon or maybe even a sheephead. It’s an easy entry right off the beach, which makes it a good choice for newer divers or for getting a quick dive in without a boat. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the area, but on a good day, it's a pleasant dive.
