Cayman Salvager (Wreck) - Florida Keys

There’s a reason we often find ourselves drawn back to the Cayman Salvager. At 26 meters, it’s an easy depth, making it a solid pick for divers getting comfortable with wrecks. What we love about this site isn’t just its size, though at 57 meters long, she’s a decent enough vessel. It’s the way she lies, upright and mostly intact, inviting you to peek into the hold, swim through the open companionways, and explore the bridge. The real magic here, however, is the life that has claimed her. Schools of grunt and snapper mill around the superstructure, shimmering like a silver curtain. Look closely in the nooks and crannies – you’ll often spot a green moray peering out, or a hefty Goliath grouper lurking under a deck plate, their eyes following your every move. It’s a photographer’s dream, especially when the light shafts pierce through the openings, illuminating the wreck in a ghostly glow. Our favourite tip? Head out early in the morning. Fewer boats mean calmer waters and a more intimate experience with this grand old lady of the Keys.
