Centro de Buceo Barracuda - Florida Keys

Forget the name for a minute, you’re not necessarily guaranteed barracuda at Centro de Buceo Barracuda, though we’ve certainly seen a few patrolling the edges. What you are pretty much guaranteed is an unhurried drift through some surprisingly healthy patch reef, especially for the Keys. We’ve found the currents here tend to be gentle, perfect for just kicking back and letting the water do the work, watching for the subtle flashes of little post horn squid jetting across the sand. Our pick for a quiet afternoon dive, it’s a spot where patience pays off. We often anchor upcurrent and just let the drift take us, spotting the odd Atlantic spotted dolphin if we're lucky, or more reliably, schools of common mojarra reflecting the sunlight. The sheer variety of shells here is impressive – look for the ridged Venus clams half-buried in the sand, or the delicate left-handed jewel box. It’s a great spot for macro enthusiasts who prefer a more relaxed pace.
