Colson s Barge - Florida Keys

Colson’s Barge, just off Marathon, is a site we’ve always enjoyed for a relaxed dive that still delivers some character. It’s not one of those dramatic, upright wrecks, more a scattered collection of barges and debris, but that’s actually part of its charm. The broken nature of it creates so many nooks and crannies, perfect for nurse sharks to snooze in and for big schools of grunts and snapper to swirl around. We’ve found the bow section to be the most intact part, and if you fin your way through the smaller pieces, you’ll spot lobsters tucked into every crevice. Visibility here can sometimes be a bit of a mixed bag, particularly after a strong blow, but on a good day, sunlight filters beautifully through the water, highlighting the coral growth that’s started to encrust the metal. It’s an easy dive, shallow enough for extended bottom times, making it a great second dive of the day, or just a mellow afternoon trip when you’re not chasing big pelagics.
