Why dive here
With 87+ marine species recorded in the area - including bull sharks, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, seahorses and sea turtles - Park Headquarters reef offers some of Florida Keys's richest reef diving. Water ranges 19-32°C, warmest July, August, September.
We’ve always found Park Headquarters reef to be a decent drift dive when the current picks up. It’s mostly spur-and-groove formations, a typical Keys reef, with plenty of small gorgonians and hard corals. Look for grunt and snapper tucked under the ledges, and parrotfish munching away on the coral. It’s a good, easy dive for shaking off the rust or just enjoying a relaxed afternoon.
