Spiegel Grove - Florida Keys
The Spiegel Grove is a big one, sitting upright in the sand, and it really feels like a proper shipwreck dive. We love that it’s so accessible, just a short boat ride from Key Largo, but still delivers that deep-wreck vibe. Dropping down, the sheer scale of the vessel hits you first, a 155-meter behemoth bristling with growth. You can glide along the superstructure, peering into cargo holds where loggerhead turtles often nap, or spot schools of permit swirling around the davits. Our favourite part is the crane boom, usually covered in corals and sponges, a great spot to find grumpy-looking lizardfish or a curious orangespotted filefish. We’d suggest getting there early in the morning for the best light penetration into the deeper sections. It’s a site for those who appreciate the grandeur of a large wreck, happy to explore its many levels and navigate the currents that can sometimes sweep across its decks.
