USS Maine - Florida Keys

The U-5 wreck, off Bornholm, is one of those dives that sticks with you long after the deco is done. We love a good piece of history, and this Type II submarine, scuttled in 1935, offers a tangible connection to a bygone era. Descending onto her deck, you can almost feel the weight of her past. She lies mostly intact, an impressive skeleton on the seabed, though time and the currents have opened up parts of her hull. We’ve seen Atlantic cod drift lazily through her torpedo tubes, and once, a curious lumpsucker peeked out from what we think was the conning tower. It’s a dive for those who appreciate wrecks with a story, those patient enough to explore the nooks and crannies where the flukes and sea trout now hide. Expect visibility to be a bit moody, this is the Baltic after all, but that only adds to the atmospheric charm. We’d suggest a strong torch; the interiors are dark, and that’s where some of the best details reveal themselves. It's a proper adventure, a real dive into history and marine life intertwined.
