Worth Avenue Pier Debris - Florida Keys

The Worth Avenue Pier Debris site isn't your typical Keys wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. Instead of a single, upright structure, you’re sifting through the scattered remains of an old pier, likely from a hurricane. We've explored it a few times, and each dive feels like an archaeological dig; you’re piecing together history from twisted rebar, broken concrete pilings, and planks of old lumber. It’s a fantastic spot for macro enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys a slower, more deliberate dive. Look closely, and you’ll find the debris absolutely carpeted in colourful sponges and soft corals. Schools of grunts and snapper weave between the larger pieces, and we’ve often spotted lobsters tucked into crevices. Our favourite thing here is the sheer density of blennies and gobies, perfectly camouflaged against the encrusted surfaces. Visibility can be a bit variable depending on recent storms, but even on a slightly murkier day, the close-up rewards are worth it. It’s a gentle dive, generally shallow, and perfect for working on your buoyancy while you explore every nook and cranny.
