Monrovia - Great Lakes

The Monrovia wreck in the Great Lakes isn't just a dive, it's a cold water history lesson wrapped in an accessible package. We love how the relatively shallow depth makes exploring this massive ore carrier less demanding than some of the deeper Great Lakes giants. You glide past the intact bow, seeing how zebra mussels have completely encased every rivet and beam, a living, textured skin over the steel. Penetrating the cargo holds is a highlight for us; the sheer scale inside is impressive, a dark, cavernous space that really gives you a sense of its working life. Look closely in the gloom and you'll often spot crayfish scuttling over the cargo remnants, and schools of perch flitting in and out of the shadows. It’s a genuinely evocative dive, perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate strong historical context and a wreck that’s still very much in one piece.
