Dredge Wreck Reef AR-382 - 105 tug POCAHONTAS - North Carolina

The Pocahontas is one of those tugs that just feels right for a dive. Sitting upright, it’s a compact wreck that you can really get to know in a single dive. We love poking around the engine room, even though it’s pretty stripped out these days. The best part, though, is the wheelhouse – often a school of baitfish will swirl through it, creating this shimmering wall as you peer inside. Out on the deck, you’ll find a surprising amount of soft coral growing, particularly sea whips, and we’ve consistently seen spiny lobster tucked into crevices. The currents here can pick up, so we always plan for a drift along the side, letting the water do some of the work. For photographers, the bow makes for some dramatic shots against the blue. It's a solid mid-level dive, perfect for those comfortable with wrecks but not looking for deep penetration.
