Boiling Reef

Boiling Reef. The name alone hints at the lively chaos, and it rarely disappoints. We’re not talking about tropical heat, of course, but the sheer energy of this Pacific Northwest site. The currents here can be robust, so you’ll want to time your dive with slack tide for the most comfortable experience. Drop in, and you’re immediately enveloped in a busy world of anemones and sponges clinging to every surface. What really grabs us is the cast of characters. We’ve had incredible encounters with playful harbour seals here, twisting and turning through the kelp. Look closely, and you’ll spot grunt sculpins camouflaged on the rocks or a Giant Pacific octopus tucked into a crevice. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration, peering under ledges for horn sharks or watching a colourful nudibranch inch across a sponge. This spot is brilliant for cold-water enthusiasts who appreciate the intricate beauty of temperate reefs. The macro life alone makes it a repeat destination for us.
