Discovery Island - Pacific Northwest

Discovery Island, just off Victoria, is one of those places that reminds you why we dive the PNW. Forget the tropical blues; here, it's about the sheer volume of life, a green-gold world swaying with the rhythm of the current. We love dropping in on the south side, letting the ebb pull us gently along, past forests of giant kelp that filter the sunlight into eerie shafts. It’s where you’ll spot those massive lingcod lurking, still as statues, along the rocky ledges. Our favourite time to dive Discovery is on a slack tide just after a heavy rain, when the visibility gets an unexpected boost and the colours truly pop. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too: the tiny Pacific glass shrimp, almost invisible against the eelgrass, or the flash of a shiner perch darting between fronds. This site truly suits divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of temperate waters and the thrill of spotting unexpected giants like the spiny dogfish cruising by. It’s an easy, rewarding dive for anyone comfortable with a bit of current and keen to explore a vibrant ecosystem.
