Inner Bajo Reef
Why dive here
With 35+ marine species recorded in the area - including humpback whales, orcas and seals & sea lions - Inner Bajo Reef offers some of Pacific Northwest's richest reef diving. Water ranges 7-17°C, warmest July, August, September.
Inner Bajo Reef, up in the Pacific Northwest, isn’t about colourful coral, but it’s got a different kind of charm. Drop in and you’ll find yourself amongst kelp forests, a pretty typical sight for British Columbia diving. We’ve spotted some hefty sunflower stars here, really quite impressive reaching over a metre across, slowly making their way across the rocks. Keep an eye out for plainfin midshipman tucked into crevices, their bioluminescent 'portholes' sometimes giving them away. It’s a good spot for a relaxed dive, nothing too taxing, perfect for shaking off the rust or getting comfortable with colder water.
Safety Notes
Cold water this month (avg 11°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
