Marsalis Abu Galawa - Hurghada

Marsalis Abu Galawa is one of those Hurghada sites that doesn’t shout, it whispers. We love it because it’s a masterclass in slow diving. Forget the rush for big pelagics; here, it’s all about the small stuff, the details you only catch when you truly settle in. The reef itself is a series of pinnacles and bommies, creating plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. We’ve spent whole dives just combing over a single coral head, finding Mimic Blennies darting between polyps, and those ridiculously charming Blue-dashed Rockskippers doing their shimmy. Look closely, and you’ll spot the Crested Sabretooth Blennies, often tucked into old wormholes, peeking out like tiny sentinels. The Batavian Parrotfish are a constant, their crunching sounds a steady soundtrack, and the Grey Sweetlips are often schooling just off the main structure. It’s an ideal spot for macro photographers or anyone who appreciates the quieter side of the Red Sea. We usually try to hit it mid-morning, after the initial rush to other sites has subsided, giving us the reef almost to ourselves. The visibility is usually excellent, creating a feeling of infinite space even when you’re focused on the minute.
