Gota Wadi Gamal - Marsa Alam

Gota Wadi Gamal feels more like a carefully curated aquarium than a natural reef, but in the best possible way. This pinnacle dive site, just off Marsa Alam, holds a kind of quiet magic. We’ve drifted around it many times, watching the light play through the water as the day progresses. The real draw here, for us, isn’t necessarily the big pelagics, though you sometimes get a glimpse of bottlenose dolphins cruising past the deeper sections. No, Gota Wadi Gamal is about the little things. The pinnacle itself is a maze of nooks and crannies, covered in soft corals and home to an astonishing variety of smaller critters. Look closely, and you’ll spot everything from the delicate Black rock pipefish to several species of cone snail, like the Sand-dusted and Feathered cones, tucked into the coral. The extensive seagrass beds surrounding the pinnacle are a particular highlight. It's not often you get such healthy, expansive beds in the Red Sea, and they’re a magnet for unique invertebrates. We’ve spent entire dives just hovering over the cymodocea and halodule, finding Lamellose Wentletraps and ornate pitar venus clams. It’s a photographer’s dream, particularly for macro enthusiasts. The site generally offers gentle conditions, making it suitable for divers who prefer a relaxed pace and appreciate the subtle beauty of the reef.
